I have been working in the mental health field with
adolescents and young adults since 2001 in array of settings. I started my career as a youth
treatment counselor at Denver Children's Home, a residential program for highly
traumatized youth. I then moved to
Attention Homes, a group home in Boulder for at-risk youth. After beginning my masters program, I
was hired as a primary mentor at AIM House, a transitional living program for
young adults struggling with mood issues, substance abuse and dependence, and
impulse control issues. I completed
my internship at the Mental Health Center of Boulder working with the child,
adolescent and family team in Longmont. After completing my internship, I
continued with the Mental Health Center for two years as the family therapist
for the Family Integrated Treatment Court for Boulder County.
My practice:
Working with family and couples: I was
trained specifically in couples and family therapy. Working from a systemic view of change, I assist families
and couples increase their communication, connection, and harmony within their
relationships and their homes. We
can become entrenched in unhealthy and unproductive patterns. I strive to help each family member develop
awareness around their part in these patterns and develop new ways of being
within the system, thus rekindling a positivity and synchronicity in the family
or couple.
Working with drug and alcohol abuse or dependence: I have
years of experience working with addiction issues. I work from a bio-psychosocial model of addiction, helping the
client develop understanding of the underlying aspects of their use and how
their use could be maladaptive way to cope with uncomfortable feelings.
Working with individuals: I have a passion for working with adolescents and young adults. The adolescent years can be difficult
to navigate through and young adults have the struggle of individuating from
their parents. Guiding adolescents
and young adults through this difficult time, I assist them in developing more
emotional awareness, coping skills, and realizing their individuality and
resiliency.
